ANDROGINO

ROOM: Jack and Jill Bathroom

DESIGNER: Roberto Tiscareno of ELEMENTI

IMAGES: Coming Soon

INSPIRATION: Inspired by the idea of self-expression, Roberto wanted to show the idea that Jack can be Jill and Jill can be Jack. That “JJ” could be a singular person that doesn’t conform to gender norms, hence the title, ANDROGINO, which translates to androgynous in Italian. All with the hopes that this design inspires young people to live their true life through the journey of design.

DESIGN ELEMENTS: Dark gray plaster by Terrabriosa wraps the room and sets the tone upon entry. Hard stone surfaces on the floor create movement with the honed Belgian Blue marble by CoorItalia in a herringbone pattern. A floating Le Cave vanity and floor storage unit made from Grigo Montenapoleone marble by Vaselli are the focal point of the space. A right-aligned design was necessary to create enough usable sink and storage for JJ. The floor storage unit doubles as small bench which includes a cushion for comfort. Playing off the singular persona with a sense of duality is the Facet Sconce by Studio Bel Vetro and the split Vanity Mirror by Rossato.

Sitting on the floor, where there once was a cast iron tub, is a custom shower tray by Vaselli in a matching Belgian Blue marble as the floor tiles. The goal here was to show the same stone in different applications and finishes. Celebrating the blossom of one’s self is the Mizu lotus pattern metal shower screen by AJK Design Studio.

The softer side of the space comes from the patterns, textures, and colors. A roman shade made of Artemisia by Creation Baumann provides the largest impact of color upon entry. Pops of turquoise appear in the wood and leather robe hook by Alice Tachney. With the greatest impact of pattern come from the almost voyeuristic lotus pattern shower screen.

Lacking natural light, Roberto and Terry Bryant of Terrabriosa, decided to plaster the ceiling in White and allow the cast glass Vega Uno fixture by Matthew Fairbanks reflect upon the space complimenting the textures and layers of material.
